Brazilian stadiums stay green with Grundfos water solutions

Keeping the flow – from field irrigation to ACGrundfos supplied all water solutions to the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, including water supply, wastewater, fire-fighting systems, air conditioning and field irrigation – to keep the grass green and fresh.
Iconic stadiums case story

When the referee set the ball rolling in Brazil in summer 2014, there was not only adrenalin pumping through the veins of players and spectators – there were also many Grundfos solutions pumping away as well.

Grundfos supplied 70% of all pump solutions installed at the 12 arenas hosting the world's greatest football event in Brazil in summer 2014.

From renovated classic stadiums to entirely new constructions, from the Atlantic seaboard to the Amazon rainforest, Grundfos pumps handled everything from pitch irrigation and air-conditioning to pressure boosting and fire-fighting.

The reliable and energy-efficient choice
“Our customers in Brazil know our high-quality solutions from experience or from our positive reputation in the industry,” says Group Executive Vice President Søren Ø. Sørensen. “Combined with the expert assistance we offer, choosing Grundfos is often considered the safe choice.”

Apart from proven reliability, the Grundfos solutions delivered – and will continue to do so – world-class energy efficiency while using a minimum of electricity and water. With energy efficiency prominent on the agenda on several of the stadium projects, the Grundfos solutions not only fulfilled all technical requirements, but they did so with minimal environmental impact.

"When designing the systems, my priorities were to get a stable pressure and flow rate, to choose energy efficiency and to find a solution that would work in a constrained space. Grundfos’ boosters lived up to all criteria."

Boosting irrigation

All 12 stadiums installed a bundle of Grundfos field irrigation systems. Grundfos pressure booster solutions could automatically adapt to changing conditions and needs, making it a lot easier for the operators to set up the systems.

One example was the Grundfos pressure booster system Hydro Solo-E – installed in nine tournament stadiums.

“When designing the systems, my priorities were to get a stable pressure and flow rate, to choose energy efficiency and to find a solution that would work in a constrained space. Grundfos’ boosters lived up to all criteria,” said Paulo Jorge Salomão Jr, engineer and designer at the engineering consulting company Sondotécnica.
