Tired of waiting for hot water?

Overview

The Situation
How long do you wait for hot water? Millions of homes around Australia feature hot water reticulation systems that offer no choice but to waste thousands of litres of water annually.

Every morning before you step into the shower, the cold water in the pipes has to be drained before the hot water arrives. If your bathroom is some distance from the heater, this represents a lot of wasted water every week. In fact, for the average four person dwelling, this can amount to 20,000 litres of water down the drain each year*.

The same applies to kitchens that might be some distance from the heater. There's a lot of water cooling in your hot water lines running through ceilings and down wall cavities, waiting for someone to turn on the tap.

For Jayson Webb, Branch Manager, McCracken's Water Services, at Warwick, Queensland, the hot water was taking far too long to arrive at his main bathroom.

“Living in Warwick the winters can get very cold so the hot water can take a while to come through. I have two bathrooms at my place, and the hot water service is at the front of the house with the main bathroom a good 25 metres away.”

The Grundfos Solution
Jayson wanted a solution and found one with Grundfos.

The solution was a small recirculation pump and valve system, called the Grundfos Comfort System. The system can be easily installed by a plumber to existing homes.

In established homes, with traditional water reticulation systems, installing a new return water pipeline can be expensive and time consuming. However, if a Comfort System is installed, there is no need to install a new line.

The result is instant hot water from existing electrical water heating systems, no matter how far the kitchen or the bathroom is from the hot water tank.

“I fitted the Grundfos Comfort System about 3 months ago, and it’s made a huge difference to our water usage. I use the Comfort system with a timer, so I have it coming on about 2hrs before we wake up in the mornings and the same in the afternoon for the kids to have a shower,” said Jayson.

He continued, “The timer on the pump makes the system more efficient by not running during down times such as the middle of the day or during the nights.”

The Outcome
For Jayson and his family, the outcome has been great. No warm-up period, no wasted water, just instant hot water on tap.

As Branch Manager of an Authorised Grundfos Dealer, Jayson says, “Having had one at my own house gives me the utmost confidence in selling them to our customers.”
