RIGA, Latvia: The 117 metre high “Saules akmens” building, means sun stone in Latvian, is a part of the plan to expand the centre of Riga to the west of Daugava river. The Hansabanka of Latvia is behind the construction, and will occupy 15,000 square metres of the building for its new headquartering. The 27-stories building, at an estimated cost of 36 million Euros, is expected to be complete in 2004. Due to several merges and rapid organic growth, development of a unifi ed offi ce was necessary for the bank. The new building will allow the bank to increase effi ciency of the administration services, optimise operational processes and improve inter-departmental cooperation. The new headquarters is the first high-rise building built in Riga since Latvia became an independent state.
The Situation
Construction of the first high-rise building in Riga since the independence of Latvia in 1991 was a thrilling challenge for the contractors. In the preface of construction, as well as during the construction Grundfos worked closely together with the contractors regarding system applications. This included applications for; heating, air-conditioning, pressure boosting and wastewater.
The Grundfos solution
Grundfos Latvia sold all pumps and pumping systems used for the country’s newest high-rise building. Grundfos delivered a total of 58 UPE, NB and TP pumps as well as booster units for this impressive building. All pumps were selected for optimal system performance. This is a direct benefit for the overall economy for the end-user.
The Outcome
Even though the installations have not yet gone into action, all parties expresses their satisfaction with the work done so far. Due to installation of the Grundfos booster units, electronically regulated, the maintenance staff of the new building expects considerable energy savings compared to other possible solutions.
