Beijings busses with Danish environmental technology

8 August 2007

Grundfos NoNOx A/S and the largest Chinese engine manufacturer, Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited, have entered into an agreement that makes Grundfos the supplier of urea dosing technology for approximately 450 busses that are to run in Beijing in 2008

The way has been prepared, and a large number of the busses transporting people in Beijing will live up to the strict demands to exhaust gases of diesel engines. In that way Grundfos will contribute to improving the conditions of life in the megacity.

”The agreement is of great importance to both Grundfos and Chinese Yuchai. The order indicates clearly that environmental technology has a big market potential in China. The total Chinese diesel engine market is bigger than the markets in USA and Europe altogether”, Mr Morten Winther, Sales and Business development manager of Grundfos NoNOx A/S, states.

Two years early
In 2008 Beijing will introduce the Euro 4 emission standard of heavy diesel vehicles. That is two years earlier than the rest of China. It means that Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited will be the first Chinese engine manufacturer who observes the Euro 4 emission level.

Dr. Li, the Manager of Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited Euro 4 development programme, says that the cooperation with Grundfos has given Yuchai a technological lead on the marked. He expects that Yuchai with this initiative can show the legislators of China that Chinese companies based on European technology and partnerships have every opportunity of contributing to the reduction of the CO2 and NOx emissions.

Perspectives of the future
Mr Winther says that the agreement is very important for Grundfos’ future achievements both in China and in Asia in general.

”In our view Yuchai is the Chinese engine manufacturer who is right at the front when it comes to research and development of next generations’s engine technology. Both this agreement and future agreements can contribute to the solution of an important part of China’s NOx and CO2 problems. Besides, our solution is distinguished by a reduction of the diesel consumption by 4 – 6% resulting in CO2 reduction. Therefore we are proud to be chosen as partner of the project supply to Beijing”, Mr Winther states.
