Grundfos staff show record interest in the environment

According to Group President Jens Jørgen Madsen, this record number of suggestions proves that Grundfos employees are highly conscious of responsible environmental management in their daily work:

“In our experience, the many small improvements are what bring about the big results. We are very pleased to note that so many employees are involved and contribute actively,” says Jens Jørgen Madsen.

Staff get their motivation to continue the hunt for new environmental improvements from the visible results on the environment and from the savings they generate. At the same time, the Group makes a considerable effort to further motivate staff by setting new ambitious goals and organising courses that focus on the influence each staff member has on the environment on a day-to-day basis.

Today, both Grundfos products and their manufacturing process impact less on the environment as a direct result of the Group’s environmental efforts. To this should be added that the environmental improvements generate considerable savings in monetary terms. As an example, without environmental efforts, the Grundfos Group’s expenses for electricity, water and heating would have been DKK 22 million higher in 2002, if the ratio of consumption to turnover had remained as in 1997, which is when the pump group began implementing its environmental policy.

The Group’s efforts to improve the work environment have also been very successful. Since the end of 2000, an additional effort has been made to prevent work accidents, and as a result, the accident frequency has been reduced by 33% at group level to 20.14 accidents per one million working hours. During the same period, accident-related absence was reduced by 20% to 2.26 hours per 1,000 working hours.
