The Dubai Can initiative was started by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, with the goal of promoting sustainable living and raising awareness of plastic alternatives. Dubai Can aims to reduce the city's waste from single-use plastic water bottles by promoting the use of reusable water bottles and enabling access to free and clean drinking water by establishing water stations across Dubai. At Grundfos, we aim to focus our efforts on improving water use and working with Dubai Can to provide safe reliable access to readily available sources of drinking water.

 

6 Facts you ought to know

In the past 10 years, we created more plastic water than during the pervious century.

We could save 410 billion litres of water per year, which is equivalent to 164,250 Olympic sized swimming pools, if everyone in UAE became more conscious about using water and changed their behaviour. 

   

Residents in UAE use 57% more water (per day) than the rest of the world, that’s is 550 litres of water per day, as compared to 170-300 litres of average water consumption internationally. 

   

More than 60 litres of water in Dubai is lost per day due to poor welding and pipe leaks as per Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). 

      

Water Scarcity affects one in three people on every continent of the globe .

About 1.8 billion healthcare employees and patients were at higher risk of having COVID-19 in 2020 because of a lack of clean water or proper sanitation tools in their facilities. 

The process of producing bottled water requires around 6 times as much water per bottle as there is in the container
