“Imagine a city where zero energy is wasted, the future is Net Zero Buildings by 2030”, said Tolga Candan who is leading Energy Optimisation & Retrofit for Grundfos Middle East. He added “Renewable energy will provide it’s true potential benefit only once we abolish the massive energy wastages in our buildings so that we can reach the Net Zero state and advance our civilization to the next level”.
Speaking at a partner workshop in June, Grundfos Gulf Distribution highlighted the energy optimization of pumping systems to become self-financing, due to the huge reductions in energy costs associated with modern high efficiency pump systems and re-engineering.
Addressing strategic partners from a cross section of leading commercial Building, Industrial and Water Utility companies, Grundfos technical experts highlighted the unsustainable cost in energy waste, maintenance and poor process reliability associated with the old and outdated pump systems that today still control much of the Middle East’s critical HVAC, irrigation and water distribution infrastructure.
Topics ranged around how to carry out an initial system assessment, quantify both the savings and the investment needed. Grundfos technical experts then looked at how to redesign and optimize the pumping systems, matching them to individual process requirements, and how to carry out the changes quickly and efficiently to minimize impact on processes and services – including turnkey options.
The final session, on project finance, then demonstrated from real life examples how savings in energy and maintenance costs can be used to offset the new equipment costs, with paybacks of less than 1 year in many cases.
“The audience was astonished to realize that energy bill holds a massive 85% of the lifetime cost of a pump system, whereas maintenance accounting for another 10% and pump price is only just 5%”, said Joao Pedro Silva from Grundfos Europe. It is easy to see, therefore, that even a relatively small investment can have a major impact on a business’s balance sheet.”
