Climate

We are continuously pushing the boundaries of innovation and digitalisation to tackle climate change through our energy-efficient products and solutions.

Highlights

140,000 people

Grundfos PowerAdapt helps to provide around 140,000 people in Tanzania's Nyarugusu Refugee Camp with access to basic water. It integrates solar power supply with a backup energy source for continuous water supply 24/7.

36% COreduction

Striving for a more complete picture of our carbon emissions, starting in 2020, the scope of measuring CO2 levels was extended to include our own vehicles. With this in scope, we reduced our CO2 emissions by 36% compared to baseline.

Partnership with Augury

We signed a long-term strategic partnership agreement with our partner, Augury to commercialise smart diagnostics solutions and services, aimed at durability and energy savings.

Our solutions

Energy-efficient products and solutions

This year, we invested 4.5% of our profit to invest in new products and constantly explored the benefits of new technology to enhance our products’ performance and raise efficiency levels.

This year's highlights include iGRID, our demand-driven solutions for district heating systems. Furthermore, the introduction of the PowerAdapt, a device that combines solar power supply with a back-up energy source for constant performance.

This year also marks the introduction of Grundfos Energy Earnings, where we engage in long-term strategic partnerships with customers, benefiting financially from minimising energy usage.

By replacing less effective pumps with our energy-efficient pumps, we have enabled our customers to save an estimated 10 billion kWh* (the equivalent annual electricity consumption of 6.2 million European citizens)

With a 30% energy savings, new pumps at a Thai water park pay for its own expenses.

Ramayana, Thailand's largest water park, aimed to lower its energy consumption and CO2 emissions. It upgraded its pumps to new, reliable Grundfos pumps with zero upfront investment thanks to the Grundfos Energy Earnings programme. The energy savings from the pumps – which are 30% higher than previous versions – cover the upgrade cost.

Our operations

Circular Economy

We aim to shift from a linear mindset towards a circular paradigm, where supply chain, products, manufacturing, and distribution are designed for circularity and resource recovery.

Through our take-back programme, we collected 14,665 kg, an increase of 22% compared with 2019. We disposed 1,426.2 tonnes of waste to landfills, representing a reduction of 35% compared with 2019.

Own footprint: energy and CO2

For a more complete picture of our carbon emissions, starting in 2020, we included CO₂ emissions from our own company vehicles in our own footprint scope. The reduction was 36% compared with baseline.

We also invested around DKK 25 million in energy-efficient and renewable energy initiatives, such as heat recovery, energy-efficient Grundfos motors, PV solar, and multiple building upgrades.

Green supply chain management

We launched the Green Supply Chain Management Programme. This is a cross-functional initiative within the four workstreams – logistics, packaging, purchasing and global manufacturing – collaborating to reduce our upstream climate impact.

Our sustainability ambitions are fully anchored across our value chain. We collaborate closely with our suppliers and logistics providers to enable them to contribute to our sustainability goals. We remain committed to reducing our own CO₂ emission and water withdrawal with 50% by 2025.

Our partnerships

In Strategic Partnerships, we focus on where it makes sense to create the biggest impact on the world, on the SDGs and for the customer; and this is reflected in our joint projects.

We signed a long-term Strategic Partnership agreement with our partner, Augury to develop smart diagnostics solutions and services, aimed at durability and energy savings.

As chairman of the climate partnership for the manufacturing Industry in Denmark, we worked on a sector roadmap that includes an ambition to be net-zero in scope 1 and 2 by 2030.

This year, we became a member of the WEF Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders
