Contributing to the Global Goals

We support goal 6 and goal 13 in particular because we believe that we can actually make a difference in these two areas.

Grundfos and the Global Goals

As formulated through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a blueprint and action plan for a better world. To successfully fulfill the action plan, governments, the private sector, civil society, and others have to work together. No single sector can deliver on the SDGs alone.

Grundfos works with the SDGs from three perspectives

We have always supported our customers with a portfolio of sustainable products and solutions. Anchoring the SDGs in our strategy was a natural continuation of our heritage and working with them from different perspectives is an ongoing process.

Business opportunities perspective

The SDGs tell us about mega-trends. Where do we see a potentially enormous un-met demand? And can we contribute to meet that demand – while doing business? We call this Sustainability is Business.

Risk perspective

Where are we at risk of causing negative impact? What are the trends in expectations about good business practices? We call these Social Contract Issues.

Communication perspective

A common framework when we speak with partners – from NGOs and governments to customers and our own employees.

Let's make water a global priority

Water scarcity is one of the most impactful global risks. The United Nations estimates that water scarcity affects more than 40 percent of people around the world. If we don't act now, this figure is projected to increase with the progression of climate change.

1,000

Every day, nearly 1,000 children die due to preventable water and sanitation-related diseases..

80%

A total of 80% of all wastewater returns to nature without being properly treated.

785 million

785 million people live without even basic water access

SDG 6 - Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

We have the technology and solutions to make a significant contribution to sustainable water access and use. From purifying surface water for drinking to making water available in water stress areas through partnership-based business models.

We also develop technology and processes to treat, recycle, and reuse wastewater in the most energy-efficient way .

By also leveraging our water solutions to meet global challenges through new business models, we are actively contributing to SDG 6 and making a difference.

Climate changes call to action

Energy usage is a major cause of climate change and pump solutions account for a massive 10% of the world’s electricity consumption. With more energy efficient pump solutions, electricity consumption can be reduced by up to 4%.

250 million

Flooding affects approximately 250 million people worldwide and causes USD 40 billion in losses on an annual basis.

73%

Energy production accounts for 73% of CO2 emission – playing a critical role in climate change eller Energy consumption for space cooling in buildings has doubled since 2000

40% and 50%

Changes in consumer behaviour and consumption patterns are expected to increase demand for water and energy by approximately 40% and 50% respectively by 2030.

SDG 13 - Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

We develop sustainable pump and water solutions that use as little energy as possible. Our solutions address some of the world's climate challenges, including flood control and solutions using clean energy sources, such as our expanding range of solar-driven products.

We actively support responsible public policy on energy efficiency.

We want to have an influence in every step of our product life cycle, ensuring that we have thought through and included sustainable solutions in each phase. We also commit to continually putting our efforts into achieving the best possible results in reducing our environmental footprint.
