New alliance ensures safe water

Water Missions International and Grundfos have entered into a partnership to implement safe drinking water projects for 24 communities in Southeast Asia, providing access to safe drinking water for an estimated 50,000 to 70,000 people.

This initiative, titled the “Southeast Asia Clean Water Initiative,” is separated into three phases that include assessment, installation, and community development plans for 24 communities in Indonesia and Cambodia. The first phase is currently underway and by June six communities on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia will have access to safe water systems.

- Grundfos takes Corporate Social Responsibility seriously, and this is a tremendous opportunity to impact the lives a lot of needy people by providing them access to safe water. This is a special project because all of these installations will be utilizing Grundfos' solar powered SQFlex pumping systems. We are indebted to Grundfos for their support of the initiative, explains George C. Greene IV, VP of International Programs at Water Missions International.

The projects will include health and hygiene training, microenterprise training, and monitoring and evaluation for each community installation to ensure sustainability.

Grundfos has funded the cost of the projects at 4.5 million DKK included in the “Southeast Asia Clean Water Initiative”, and they will utilize Grundfos SQFlex water pumping systems.

- We are most pleased to strengthen our alliance with Water Missions International through this new partnership, where we from Grundfos are able to deliver the technical know-how. Combined with the local knowledge from Water Missions International, I hope this will benefit the people who truly are in need of safe water, says Niels Due Jensen, chairman of the Poul Due Jensen Foundation.

The relationship between Water Missions International and Grundfos began in 2007 and the “Southeast Asia Clean Water Initiative” will commence in 2013.

Water Missions International is an engineering relief and development Christian non-profit providing safe water solutions to 49 developing countries and disaster victims worldwide.
