The potential saved penalty from improved Delta T in buildings with district cooling

In this module, you learn how to use a value calculation tool that helps you understand the value of increasing Delta T with Grundfos iSOLUTIONS products or solutions and keeping it within the range required by the district cooling utility.

Low Delta T syndrome occurs when the chilled water temperature range for which the system is designed is not maintained.
If connected to a chilled water utility company, there are a set of technical requirements a customer has to meet.  Very often this includes a fixed Delta T requirement.

If, as a customer, you do not achieve the required Delta T, you may receive penalties if you are below or sometimes even a bonus if you are above the required Delta T.

If you are in the unfortunate situation that you are paying penalties due to a too low Delta T, this is how you can calculate your savings from an increased Delta T with Grundfos iSOLUTIONS pumps, drives or controllers.

We start by subtracting the current Delta T from your required Delta T.
As your Delta T is below the required, we multiply the Delta T difference by the penalty.

To get a full year’s worth of savings that may be achieved by an increased Delta T, we then must multiply with your annual energy consumption.

And that’s it – now we have your current penalty that comes from not achieving the required Delta T.

We calculate your future penalty in the same way. We simply replace the actual Delta T with the assumed higher future Delta T that you believe can be achieved using Grundfos iSOLUTIONS products or solutions.

And now we only have to subtract your future penalty from your current penalty to get the saved penalty from an improved Delta T.

You can calculate your own savings using the interactive pdf that can be downloaded from the page where you found this training. Just insert your values for:
- The Delta T requirement from the district cooling utility,
- Your actual Delta T,
- The assumed Delta T by using Grundfos iSOLUTIONS products or solutions,
- Your annual district cooling energy consumption and
- The penalty for not achieving the required Delta T.
The savings will then automatically be calculated for you on the fly.

You can of course save the pdf to your computer for sharing the result with your colleagues or clients.
