A leading 170-bed teaching and tertiary care referral hospital enabled it to provide a significantly higher level of specialized care combining cutting-edge technology with highly skilled human resources. The hospital facilities provide advanced clinical programmes in cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, critical care (including neo-natal critical care), and maternal and child health. All specialities are supported by relevant diagnostics, integrated operating rooms, and a sophisticated accident and emergency department.
Now more than ever daily cleaning and disinfection to avoid the spreading of COVID-19 at this prestigious facility has been a top priority. The fire pump system was used for this extensive additional daily cleaning and the failure of transducer sensors and mechanical seals on their pumping system was not premeditated, nor the possible struggles to have any repairs done with urgency. As most borders are closed for travel due to COVID-19, the hospital faced the problem to have a qualified Grundfos technician on-site to assist with the repairs.
Recently Grundfos SSA (Sub-Saharan Africa), launch the new Virtual Technical Service Assistance application that allows Grundfos service technicians to assist customers with any type of repair remotely.
Grundfos dispatched the required spare parts directly to the hospital and contacted our local service partner in Dar es Salaam, Mr Adolph Shinja, from ACREHU Solutions, to assist with the replacement of all mechanical seals and transducers. Mr Adolph Shinja downloaded the Virtual Site call app and connected with our service technician Dennis Kariuki based in Nairobi, Kenya via the call. With the two-way video call, the Grundfos service technician was able to guide Mr Shinja step by step on how to replace the mechanical seals and transducers, re-calibrate the sensors and reset all settings for optimal operation.
Grundfos Service and Solutions displayed a great innovative solution for repairing a breakdown that could have had serious implications for the hospital and their patients. With the pumping system repaired and running at optimal operations, the Aga Khan Hospital can continue with daily cleaning and disinfection for their premises again without concerns.
