Dede McEllhiney, Market Development Manager
Who am I?
After growing up in Manhattan, KS, I pursued my formal education with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Kansas State University. Previous employment has included experience in cost estimating then production engineering in the defense industry, followed by a period in process and project engineering focused on pressure transmitters, wastewater treatment equipment and pumping station projects before joining Grundfos as an Application Engineer in 2005.

What drives me
I am proud that the market development role allows me to contribute thoughts and ideas that drive the company's strategy and reinforce company values, both internally and in the industrial market. Grundfos makes a profound difference in a world that must manage its water and energy resources to preserve a quality way of life for future generations. That sense of purpose makes Grundfos a great place to work.
My Grundfos Journey
About three years after joining Grundfos in a general applications engineering role supporting all products, I volunteered to step into a role managing larger chemical feed projects. A background in chemical engineering, significant experience supporting the Grundfos chemical feed pump products, and a working knowledge of project and contract management positioned me as one of the preferred candidates. Once the project team became established, I was given the privilege of supervising that team which later became specialized and subsequently responsible for fielding questions from chemical feed and disinfection systems customers. When an opportunity became available for me to contribute in a sales capacity, I moved into a technical sales role covering the central region, calling on distribution partners, engineering firms, and end users to offer technical product training as well as sales support and to promote the Grundfos brand. Based on my reputation as a Grundfos pump expert of sorts with some customer service management skills, I was recruited outside of Grundfos to serve as a global product manager for customer equipment and to help establish a centralized functions equipment support team for a large chemical vendor. After enjoying five years in that role, I returned to Grundfos as a Market Development Manager to focus on the industrial process market business strategy, driving projects and initiatives forward and promoting the Grundfos brand through distribution as well as within engineering firms and end users.
It is ingrained in the Grundfos culture to offer innovative, sustainable solutions to our world’s water and energy consumers.
Proud to be Grundfos
It is ingrained in the Grundfos culture to offer innovative, sustainable solutions to our world’s water and energy consumers. We do this in a way that is only possible because we are organized under and operated by a foundation, independent of the pressures of shareholders demanding quarterly earnings. Yet we do so in an open and trustworthy manner for the benefit of our customers as well as our employees. And we must continue to do so, demonstrating relentless ambition, as the world around us changes.
My husband and I love to take unconventional vacations now that our children are grown and on their own. So far we’ve swam with sea turtles around the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, traveled by tuk-tuk to the temples of Siem Reap in Cambodia, sailed in a catamaran around the islands of southern Thailand, hiked the last seven miles of the Inca Trail leading to the Sun Gate at Machu Picchu in Peru, and swam with pink dolphins – and piranhas – in the Amazon river of the northern Peruvian rain forest. I am also a devoted yoga practitioner who does sun salutations then stands on my head for relaxation whenever I have trouble sleeping.
