A Word from Barry

Thoughts from the first half of 2022

First, I would like to thank you for your partnership with Grundfos. Transportation issues and availablity of components around the world in the last couple of years has caused us all discomfort. While many items appear to be getting back to normal, there is still a long way to go.

As Grundfos continues its efforts to provide exceptional customer-centric service, we are seeing some positive results. Our Customer Service Center had a record month of units shipped out of our Fresno production facility over the last 18 months. As I mention, we have a way to go, but I am very proud of the efforts of all Grundfos employees around the world.

A special note to the Grundfos employees and their families affected in the disruption happening in Europe.

We are Grundfos. Stay strong.

Thank you,

Our Team is Growing!

This quarter, we're excited to welcome two new teammates:  Alexander Jose Manares Gamboa and Bruce Smith.

Please Welcome Alexander Jose Manares Gamboa

Alexander Jose Manares Gamboa has been with Grundfos in Latin America for seven years, and this summer he joins the North American DBS OEM team. His work experience spans every Grundfos division — including time working with Peerless Pump Company to develop the Chilean market. Alexander and his wife Lorena Molina will relocate to Austin, Texas, approximately 4,700 miles from their current home in Santiago, Chile.

While the products remain largely the same, in his new role, Alexander will be working with boiler and geothermal OEM partners in the United States. Within the DBS division, he's excited to build close relationships and visit customers face-to-face. "Understanding the market, building relationships, and finding new opportunities to improve partnerships. One of my initial goals is to forecast with the customer, so the product is available when needed," he shared.

Outside of work, you'll find Alexander enjoying a good bottle of wine and barbecuing with friends on his charcoal ('al carbon') grill. He enjoys dancing and reading when time permits.

Please Welcome Bruce Smith

Bruce joins Grundfos with a strong background in customer service and training. He was the third generation in his family to enter the HVAC space when he joined Dennis Supply Company in Omaha in 2005.

In his new role at Grundfos, Bruce looks forward to sharing his passion. "I love to help people in the industry grow their business through new and innovative solutions," he shared. Over the last 17 years, Bruce's career focused on educating people about how geothermal energy is stored in the ground and how it impacts home heating and cooling. In 2016, he even provided cave tours for an 1800s brewery that uses geothermal energy in its brewing process. Bruce says his passion for the geothermal space brought him to Grundfos.

He lives in northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C., and is an avid fan of the Nebraska Huskers football team.

Heat Pump Paradigm Shift

The stage is set for the future of hot water systems as the movement grows to "electrify everything." New York, Massachusetts, as well as local municipalities in California, Washington, and Colorado seem to be leading the charge to phase out fossil fuel consumption in buildings.

The initial steps vary across the U.S.; natural gas bans have been enacted in some states, while electric and renewables are incentivized in other areas. Regulations enforcing electrification are also under consideration, like New York state's "All-Electric Building Act" currently in committee (Senate bill S6483C). It's important to note this doesn't apply only to new buildings; Denver's latest ordinance includes the retrofit of existing building stock, for example.

This progression is not some far-off 2050 aspiration. Local building code changes are anticipated in the next two-to-five years. Adding to the urgency, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has given European manufacturers time to pause and reflect on their fossil fuel dependency, resulting in an increased focus on heat pumps.

It's clear the time to act is now.

Are you ready for the next significant shift in our industry? The ways America creates hot water and heats buildings are changing, and we are prepared to help you.

The Perfect Loop

We've just completed the first three training sessions of The Perfect Loop training series with our partner, Caleffi Hydronic Solutions. We enjoyed visiting Chicago, Fresno, Calif., and Denver, where we talked with installers about optimal plumbing and heating system designs from both sides of the flange. Before year-end, we'll head to Caleffi's headquarters in Milwaukee to host a plumbing session.

If we haven't come to your local area yet, you can catch a preview with Max Rohr and Becky Henderson on the recent Coffee with Caleffi recording. Keep an eye out for future virtual sessions.

While we plan our 2023 stops and virtual options, please let us know if you'd like to host a training in your area: https://grundfos.to/theperfectloop
