Dec 8-9 Grundfos Sustainable Buildings Academy - Advanced Plumbing Design - Wastewater - F2F Course - Brookshire, TX
This in-depth wastewater training course is designed for professionals who already have a working understanding of wastewater systems and want to strengthen how they evaluate, design, select, and troubleshoot wastewater pumping applications. The course blends foundational theory with advanced concepts, emphasizing real-world station design, pump hydraulics, control strategy, and long-term operational performance.
The program begins with basic and advanced wastewater pump theory, focusing on how solids, hydraulics, and system conditions influence pump behavior and reliability. Participants will also receive an overview of the wastewater applications within commercial buildings. Participants then move into wastewater pumping station design, including pumping pit sizing, wet well considerations, and how inflow conditions, duty cycles, and system curves shape pump selection and layout decisions. Special attention is given to impeller designs, their intended applications, and how improper matching leads to clogging, excessive wear, and performance issues in the field.
As the course progresses, the focus shifts from “it moves wastewater” to “it operates reliably, efficiently, and serviceably.” Participants explore the Grundfos wastewater pump portfolio, including product positioning and application fit, and gain practical insight into Grundfos wastewater control solutions—how level control, alternation, protection logic, alarms, and communication features impact uptime, maintenance demands, and lifecycle cost.
Hands-on exercises reinforce classroom learning, allowing attendees to apply theory directly to pump selection, station layout, control configuration, and operational troubleshooting scenarios.
Key Topics Covered:
- Basic & advanced wastewater pump theory
- Wastewater applications within commercial buildings
- Wastewater pumping station design principles
- Pumping pit / wet well sizing and layout considerations
- Wastewater pump types and application differences
- Impeller designs (vortex, channel, cutter, multi-channel) and when to use each
- Common causes of clogging, wear, vibration, and performance loss
- Grundfos wastewater pumps and application positioning
- Grundfos wastewater controls and control strategies
- Hands-on design, selection, and troubleshooting exercises
Outcome
Participants leave with a clearer, more confident approach to designing and supporting wastewater pumping systems. They gain the ability to explain why one pump or impeller design is preferred over another, how wet well and control decisions affect long-term performance, and how to diagnose and prevent common wastewater system failures using sound engineering logic rather than trial and error.
Who Should Attend:
This course is ideal for:
- Plumbers, contractor supervisors, and foremen working with wastewater lift stations
- Municipal, utility, and facility maintenance personnel responsible for reliability and uptime
- Sales Engineers, Technical Sales, and Application Engineers supporting wastewater projects
- Design engineers, specifiers, and consultants involved in lift station or building wastewater systems
- Service and commissioning teams troubleshooting operational or performance issues
This training is best suited for attendees who already understand the basics of wastewater pumping and want to deepen their “why” behind pump selection, station design, and control strategy.
