Grundfos supports Pepsico’s energy conservation drive

PepsiCo India Holdings Private Limited is a multinational company with interests in Manufacturing, Marketing and Distribution of grain-based snack foods, beverages, and other products. PepsiCo entered India in 1989 and in a short period of 23 years has grown into the largest and one of the fastest-growing food & beverage businesses in the country. PepsiCo has a commitment to ‘Performance with Purpose’ to find innovative ways to minimize their impact on the environment, which primarily focusses on Water and energy conservation.

THE SITUATION

PepsiCo, Roha, Maharashtra, as a part of their initiative to the conservation of energy, invited Grundfos for Energy Audit. The report showed that the existing pumps were consuming more energy-related to pressure and the wastage of water was also alarmingly noticeable. So, PepsiCo, Roha decided to replace a few of their existing critical pumps with ‘energy-efficient pumps’.

THE SOLUTION

The detailed Energy audit report suggested the replacement with Grundfos Vertical pumps and closed couple end suction pumps (Models:- CRN 64-2, NB 125-200/221, and NB 100-200/170, CR 20-03, and CR 15-04) in the utility and process systems in order to optimize the water-energy performance.

The technical Data for CRN/CR pumps are listed below:

Liquid temperature: -40 °C to +180 °C

Operational pressure: max.33 bar

The technical Data for NB pumps are listed below:

Flow rate: max.1000 m3/h

Head: max 160m

Liquid temperature: -25 °C to +140 °C

Operational pressure: max.25 bar

THE OUTCOME

Grundfos pump solutions thus saved PepsiCo, Roha 5625 kWh units per month amounted to Rs.4,00,000 (approximate) annually.

“Grundfos pumps saved 41 % of energy consumption, which has contributed greatly towards PepsiCo Roha’s initiation on Energy Conservation. Grundfos high-quality pumps offer reliability, which is very important to ensure the quality of production” says a maintenance official.
