Acetochem exports its dyes and intermediates to various European countries, the US, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, South Africa, Japan, Taiwan and Korea.

THE SITUATION

The manufacturing unit uses the Multi Evaporation system for concentration and crystallization of liquids. The evaporators help increase the solid contents of the liquid product prior to drying. Depending on the number of effects used in an evaporator the quantity of water evaporated per kilogram of steam increases. In case of multiple effect evaporators, steam jet ejectors or thermo-compressors are used to increase the thermal efficiency. The liquid feed is passed through the heat exchanger and indirectly heated with the help of steam.

In this case, the system was drawing more power and yielding comparatively less results. The main fault was with pressure, as the liquid is crystallized at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum.

THE SOLUTION

To avoid the over drawing of power for required pressure, Grundfos changed the existing circulation pumps to CRN 1-4 and CRN 3-9.

THE OUTCOME

The suggested replacement of pumps resulted in less energy consumption and more yield.
