The Situation

A prominent mall in Hyderabad, had been facing persistent issues with its domestic water pump system for the past 4-5 years. The initial system had become increasingly difficult to maintain, causing significant strain on operations. The key concerns included high maintenance costs, lack of spare parts, frequent breakdowns, elevated energy consumption, an oversized system, and excessive noise levels in the pump room.

These challenges not only disrupted day-to-day functioning but also compromised overall system efficiency and sustainability. With rising energy bills and operational complexity, the mall management began looking for a modern, reliable solution that could reduce costs, minimize manual intervention, and align with their long-term efficiency goals.

The Solution

Upon inspection, Grundfos identified that the existing system was operating on the far-right side of the pump curve, resulting in efficiency dropping below 50%. To address this, Grundfos proposed the Hydro Multi-E system, featuring IE5-rated CRE 20-5 pumps with 7.5kW MGE motors, offering a more balanced and energy-efficient performance. Each pump was capable of delivering 23 m3/hr at 85 meters head, with high operational efficiency and low noise output.

The solution eliminated the need for a separate control panel by integrating inbuilt VFDs and PLCs, thereby saving valuable pump room space. It also enabled direct BMS connectivity, simplifying system monitoring and management. With reduced noise, better control, and a standardized system that met all the functional requirements, Grundfos delivered a compact, intelligent, and future-ready solution tailored to the mall's needs.

Annual energy savings

up to 38,325 kWh

CO2 emissions

up to 23 tons reduced annually

Payback period

14 months

The Outcome

The Grundfos upgrade brought immediate and measurable improvements. The mall achieved a great amount of annual energy savings, translating to a reduction of CO2 emissions. This level of energy efficiency resulted in a shorter payback period, showcasing the financial viability of the investment. Specific energy consumption of this replaced hydro multi E system reduced by up to 40%.

With lower downtime, improved energy performance, and smoother operations, the mall now benefits from a reliable, smart water solution that supports both its business goals and sustainability ambitions.
