Grundfos SQ Flex for Community Water Supply in Maharashtra

Gauramwala, a village in Maharashtra, India, faced a severe water crisis, relying on a single handpump for its 80 families. Women and children had to wake up at 2 am daily to pump water, affecting their hygiene, sanitation, and health. On May 6, 2009, Grundfos, in collaboration with Span Pumps, installed the Grundfos SQF 2.5-2 pump system, powered by solar, wind, and battery energy. This system provided a continuous water supply, transforming the village. The installation of a 5,000-liter tank and tap points improved sanitation, hygiene, and productivity, allowing women to work in the fields. The success of this project led to the installation of over 42,000 SQ Flex pumps across 12 states in India, benefiting 8.2 million people. This initiative exemplifies reliable, sustainable, and low-risk community water systems from source to tap, including water management and revenue collection systems, for low-income remote or informal urban settlement areas in developing countries.
