SCALA2 Pre-charge pressure

Learn how an annual check and adjustment of SCALA2’s pre-charge pressure helps maintain optimal performance, and see how to do it step by step.

As an all-in-one integrated pressure boosting system, SCALA2 is designed to deliver constant water pressure in up to eight taps in the home, world-class energy performance, cost savings for homeowners, and silent operation.

Maintaining these benefits relies on achieving the correct pre-charge pressure in the integrated pressure tank. Over time, air can escape from the tank, leading to fluctuating pressure, decreased efficiency, increased noise, and potential wear on the system. To prevent these issues, checking and adjusting the pre-charge pressure annually is recommended.

Let’s explore how to pre-charge pressure in the integrated pressure tank of the SCALA2.

First, stop the SCALA2 by pressing the STOP button on the unit.

Next, depressurise the system by closing the supply pipe and opening a tap to release any remaining pressure.

Then, unscrew the air valve cap on the pressure tank to access the air valve. From here you’ll need a portable electric air compressor––or a similar tool––to check the current pressure and to pump air into the integrated pressure tank.

Before pumping air into the tank, it’s important that the pre-charge pressure is set correctly. It should ideally be at 70% of the set point value or desired discharge pressure and never above it. For example, if your setpoint is 3.0 bar, your pre-charge should be 2.1 bar.

Once you have identified the appropriate pre-charge pressure value, pump in air until the desired pressure is reached.

Firmly remount and tighten the air valve cap to prevent air leakage over time. Then open the supply cut off valve again and turn on the SCALA2.

Let’s recap.

Remember, regularly maintaining the correct pre-charge pressure is a simple yet crucial step in ensuring your SCALA2 operates at optimal performance.

Always ensure the pre-charge pressure is 70% of the set point value / desired discharge pressure and never above it. By performing this check annually, you safeguard your system against potential issues and ensure the SCALA2 continues to deliver constant pressure, world-class energy efficiency and silent operation.
