Groundwater intake: Securing trouble-free water supply

- Maximised reliability
- Reduced opex
- Up to 20% energy savings

Zao Vodokanal, Klin

Find out how a water intake facility in russia has increased water supply while reducing costs thanks to reliable and efficient pump solutions.

The ZAO Vodokanal facility handles water intake for residents in the city of Klin within the Moscow Region. The facility’s old pumps lacked capacity during hours of peak demand, and pump operating conditions had changed after an iron removal plant was put in service in 2009. This plant was designed to solve the problem of poor water quality due to high levels of iron. To replace its old pump equipment and resolve its operational issues, the facility turned to Grundfos for help.

New system

After conducting a pump audit, the old and worn Russianproduced well pumps were replaced with energy-efficient, stainless-steel SP series groundwater pumps from Grundfos. SP pumps were supplied complete with motor protection modules built into a Grundfos MP204 control cabinet.

The distribution pumping station was equipped with NKG end-suction pumps and a Grundfos MPC-F control cabinet.

Outcome

  • Water supply has increased by 9.5% while the cost per m3 water has been reduced by 1.5%
  • Reliable water supply for all residents in the community and municipality
  • Energy savings of up to 20% and a significant reduction in opex

A sound investment

"After we replaced the old equipment with Grundfos, we have seen appreciable savings, since the new pumps consume much less power compared to the old ones," says Valery V. Kazmin, Deputy Head of Water Intake Operations at ZAO Vodokanal. In fact, Grundfos equipment installed in the groundwater intake and distribution stations will be completely paid back in seven years, considering the annual growth in electricity prices.

"Grundfos solutions provide comprehensive protection of equipment and trouble-free water supply. Grundfos pumps demonstrate high reliability and efficiency, so there is nothing to complain about."
