The Situation

Dubai aims to become one of the world’s most sustainable cities through the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, targeting 75% clean energy by 2050. The city’s commitment to green urban development is evident in projects like the new-generation district cooling plant in Jumeirah. This district cooling plant aligns with this vision by integrating green technologies to reduce its environmental footprint and improve efficiency.

However, it faced challenges such as limited power supply, space constraints, and tight timelines, requiring a 30-40% reduction in lead time to meet deadlines. These obstacles threaten to slow its progress while maintaining high standards.

Grundfos believes in end-to-end support, closely involving client, consultant, and contractor from design to execution. This project showcases how our customers can always rely on Grundfos for sustainable solutions.

The Solution

Grundfos addressed the district cooling plant’s challenges with a customized solution featuring high-efficiency LS & LSV pumps equipped with IE4 motors. With Belzona coating, an efficiency improvement of 3% was achieved, resulting in a reduction of energy consumption.

Additionally, LSV pumps optimized space by fitting seamlessly within the available footprint. Grundfos’s technical expertise enabled the district cooling plant to achieve its sustainability and efficiency objectives, underscoring the commitment to sustainable development in Dubai’s urban infrastructure.

The Outcome

The advanced, Belzona-coated pumps increased efficiency upto 87.5%, allowing for low voltage motors that cut energy consumption and costs by avoiding more expensive medium voltage motors. This also led to CAPEX reduction and improved asset utilization. By engaging from design to till handover, Grundfos addressed customer pain points, solidifying their role as the preferred supplier.

This collaboration reinforced Grundfos’s position as a trusted provider of energy-efficient solutions. Their strategic problem-solving helped the district cooling plant achieve sustainability goals while enhancing its operational efficiency, showcasing how tailored solutions drive both efficiency and sustainability in district cooling projects.
