The Situation

As part of its sustainability initiative, a premium hotel invited Grundfos to evaluate its existing hydro-pneumatic pumping system for potential energy savings and improved system control. While the system had been in operation  for several years, rising energy costs and the inability of the hotel’s third-party desktop BMS to interface with the pumping system limited real-time monitoring, optimization, and control. Recognizing the importance of intelligent control alongside energy efficiency, the hotel sought a solution that could deliver measurable savings while enabling centralized, transparent system management.

The Solution

Following a detailed walk-through survey, Grundfos identified strong potential for energy optimization through the adoption of nextgeneration IE5 pumping system. Based on these insights, the customer was aligned to proceed with a comprehensive energy audit of the existing hydro system to accurately assess performance gaps and savings potential. As part of the proposed value enhancement, Grundfos also introduced its cloud-based Grundfos Connect platform, enabling advanced monitoring and control of all energy parameters within the hydro system.

The subsequent energy audit of the existing system operating with IE3 motors confirmed substantial improvement potential. Grundfos submitted a detailed report aiming energy savings up to 34.32 kW upon conversion to an IE5-based hydro system. To maximize both efficiency and transparency, the final solution packaged the IE5 Hydro system together with Grundfos Connect, delivering a fully integrated setup that combinede high-efficiency performance with intelligent real-time control and monitoring.

The Outcome

Following the commissioning of the new IE5 Hydro system, Grundfos conducted a post-installation energy audit, which confirmed actual energy savings of 37.1 kW, exceeding the 34.32 kW savings committed in the initial report. This validated the effectiveness of the solution and reinforced confidence in the system’s performance and efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Grundfos Connect platform was fully onboarded, accompanied by an online training session conducted by the Utility team to familiarize the customer with system control and monitoring features. These included real-time dashboards, trend analysis, report generation, and alarm configuration. The customer was highly impressed with both the energy savings achieved and the ease of use and operational transparency delivered by the integrated solution, marking a successful step forward in their sustainability journey.
