Grundfos in El Sokhna- a journey through history

Grundfos treated Egypt’s engineers to a journey through the history of pump development as part of a 3-day Commercial Building Services seminar at El Sokhna, a busy commercial development hub on the western shore of the Red Sea.

The event, intended to highlight the key role that modern high efficiency pumping systems play in the design of today’s increasingly complex buildings, was focused on everyday challenges, and structured around technical presentations and discussions with Grundfos experts and real-life examples of local projects.

Activities commenced early on 19th April when delegates from around the region were welcomed prior to transfer to El Sokhna’s Movenpick Resort Hotel, where the day was spent taking in the local sights and relaxing ready for a full day of presentations, discussions and workshops the following day.

The second day started with a history lesson with delegates taken back to 1945, when Grundfos was established and its journey to become the world’s leading expert in pump technology and design, responsible for many of the innovations that are today shaping building services design around the globe, first began.

Attention then moved to current thinking on pumping systems, with the conventional pump unit replaced by Grundfos iSolutions – integrated ‘intelligent’ systems that bring together pumps, drives, controls, protection, measurement and communication modules as a single highly-efficient unit that is highly efficient and can adapt automatically to changes in demand and pressure.

Presenters then touched on 2009, when Grundfos moved its focus to ‘Sustainability First’, setting tough environmental performance targets for all of its buildings and committing to ongoing development and manufacture of new technologies that continuously reduce the energy consumption of its pumps and associated products – a move that has today made Grundfos pumps a key element in any sustainable building design.

The day was rounded off with a workshop on pump selection and system design prior to a site visit to the nearby Telal El Sokhna resort, to see at first hand a recent installation of Grundfos high performance water intake, water distribution and waste  water pumps with advanced Hydro MPC booster controls.

After breakfast on the final day delegates were given the opportunity to discuss individual pump issues with Grundfos experts, and to exchange experiences with colleagues from other companies, prior to departure.

The event was judged a great success, with positive feedback from the 30 delegates who attended.
