In a delegation of joined forces, Grundfos spotlighted the crucial role of water in cities' climate resilience at this weeks at C40 Mayors Summit.

Grundfos joined the C40 Mayors Summit taking place in Rio, Brazil, this week.

The climate action conference brings together mayors from nearly 100 major cities with business leaders, philanthropists, investors, academics, and civil society in an effort to knowledge share and collaborate on urgent, inclusive, and ambitious climate action in urban environments.

Dieter Sauer opening the keynote session: "Why action is needed now"

Through a partnership between the Poul Due Jensen Foundation and C40, Grundfos has been an avid advocate for the role of water in urban planning. As a result, a new session saw the light of day this year, dedicated to water.

Opening the session was Dieter Sauer, Sales Group Head, Water Utility. Speaking to an audience of influential global figures, he delivered a keynote speech on urban water resilience and adapting cities to a changing climate.

"90% of climate impacts involve water. Yet despite this reality, water remains undervalued and sidelined in our climate strategies. This must change," Dieter Sauer stated as part of his opening statement.

Collective actions can be a double-sided win

Taking place just days before COP30, the summit marks a critical moment for city-led climate action.

Additional to the keynote, the joint delegation from Grundfos and from the Poul Due Jensen Foundation engaged in several panel discussions and meetings to empower local policy implementation. At the core, the message delivered across occasions was clear: smart water management is crucial to establish social, economic and climate resilience.

"Mayors are at the forefront of the water crisis. They have to provide a response to their citizens every day. Extreme weather events are a new reality and cities must adapt. During these days, we carefully listened to what cities are facing. This gives us an opportunity to humbly reconnect with Grundfos purpose: to pioneer solutions to the world's water and climate challenges and improve quality of life for people," said Inês Breda, Manager of Partnerships & Alliances, External Relations.

Representing Grundfos and the Poul Due Jensen Foundation were Inês Lousinha Ribeiro Breda, Manager of Partnerships & Alliances, External Relations, Virginia Newton-Lewis, Head of Programme, Water, Poul Due Jensen Foundation, Dieter Sauer, Sales Group Head, Water Utility, and joining the Grundfos delegation was also Lykke Leonardsen from the Water Safe Cities Programme in C40.
