Installation of the UPS4 GO and ALPHA2 GO

Learn how to install UPS4 GO and ALPHA2 GO. This module covers everything from mounting and pump head positioning to electrical assembly and more.

In this module, we will learn how to install ALPHA2 GO and UPS4 GO pumps, covering mounting, pump head positioning, and electrical assembly, including adapters for replacement. Let's get started.

First, ensure you have all the relevant items:
- An ALPHA2 GO or UPS4 GO pump.
- Two gaskets.
- An installer plug.

Got them all? Good, let's continue.

Step 1: mount the pump.

First identify the arrows on the ALPHA2 GO or UPS4 GO pump housing. They indicate the flow direction through the pump. And then close the inlet and outlet valves. Next, fit the two gaskets supplied with the pump when you mount it on the pipe. Ensure you install the pump with the horizontal motor shaft within ± 5°. Tighten the unions with a wrench and mount the installer plug.

Step 2: pump head positioning.

When installing ALPHA2 GO or UPS4 GO pumps, you can position the pump head in 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions. However, the ALPHA2 GO K variant for condensing applications, can only be mounted in the 9 o'clock position. If you wish to change the pump head position for ALPHA2 GO or UPS4 GO pumps, use a 4mm hexagonal allen key to loosen and remove the four screws from the pump head. Now turn the pump head to the desired position, And re-insert and cross-tighten the screws.

Step 3: assembling the installer plug.

The ALPHA2 GO and UPS4 GO pumps come with a toolless installer plug, which simplifies the wiring process and can be rotated 90 degrees. Let's learn how to assemble the installer plug and complete the wiring.

Step 1: Unscrew the cable gland.

Step 2: Insert the power cable into the cable gland and plug body.

Step 3: Strip the wires from the plug body according to the measurements shown on screen.

Step 4: Open the wire locks and connect the wires according to the colour code: Blue wires to Neutral, or N. Black or Brown wires to Live, or L. Yellow green wire into Earth.

Step 5: Secure the wires by closing the wire locks.

Step 6: Assemble the plug body.

Step 7: Click the plug body into place and tighten the cable gland.

Step 8: Once the pump has been installed in the pipe, attach the insulations shells over the pump housing if available.

To assemble the plug at a 90-degree angle, follow steps 1 to 5 as previously described. Then lift the frontplate of the plug, turn the main plug 90 degrees, and place the frontplate in the 90 degree position.

Assemble the plug body.

Click the plug body into place and tighten the cable gland. And finally, attach the insulation shells over the pump housing once the pump has been installed in the pipe.

A range of cable adapters are available for the GO range to help installers with the replacement process in different scenarios. Let's explore their functionality.

When replacing UPM3 or UPM4 pumps with the ALPHA2 GO, the FCI Signal Adapter is required if the original pump was managed via an external signal using an FCI connection. Both the FCI Signal Adapter cable and Signal Cable should be connected to the pump's external signal port via the superseal connection. The ALPHA power adapter is recommended when replacing older generations of the ALPHA1, 2 and 3 pumps. It makes it possible to connect the old power cable and plug to the new for UPS4 GO or ALPHA2 GO without cutting the cable.

If you're replacing older UPS pumps that utilised Volex or Molex connectors, Volex and Molex Power Adapters enable the old power cable to connect to the UPS4 GO without cutting the cable and re-wiring.

That concludes the installation module for the GO range.
