Grundfos MAGNA Only Pump To Fulfill Expectations

The Orange County Choppers 100,000 s.f. state-of-the-art world headquarters in Newburgh, NY, is visited by tourists worldwide, and the renowned organization is regarded as one of the world’s premier builders of custom motorcycles.

The Situation
Larry Krug of Orange County Sheet Metal was called on by Orancge County Choppers to do the HVAC and hydronic work for the new world headquarters. His challenge was to provide a versatile radiant heat layout that would meet the customer’s requirements. Because of the cold winters and the expensive custom bikes rolling in and out of the shop, they needed a radiant heat system to warm certain zones of the facility. The solution would include a snowmelt system for the parking garage outdoor ramp that would provide safe, ice-free access for transferring the bikes in and out of the garage.

The Grundfos Solution
The largest of the three key hydronic zones created by Krug was the 4,200 s.f., 300-gallon snowmelt system, and according to Krug, “The only pump that could meet the need was the variable speed Grundfos Magna circulator, a custom fit for the kings of custom bikes.” The multiple sensors and dedicated outdoor reset feed information into the pump’s built-in logic continuously. The pump responds with smart, variable-speed circulation of the glycol mix.

The Outcome
“It’s like an insurance policy,” says Krug, “that when winter belts out its worst, I won’t be getting a call from the owners that a bike slipped and went down.”
