Sep 22-23 Grundfos Sustainable Buildings Academy - Advanced HVAC Optimization & Control Strategies: Design, Sequencing, and Real-World Performance - F2F Course
Advanced HVAC Optimization & Control Strategies is a two-day, in-depth course focused on how commercial HVAC systems are designed, controlled, commissioned, and optimized in real buildings.
This course moves beyond fundamentals to examine why some HVAC systems deliver their intended performance and why many do not. Participants will explore load profiles and part-load reality, hydronic system architectures, ΔT behavior, and advanced pumping and control strategies used in modern buildings. Emphasis is placed on understanding system interactions, control sequences, and the operational tradeoffs that impact energy use, comfort, and reliability.
Throughout the course, attendees will work through real-world scenarios and case studies, covering topics such as variable primary flow plants, differential pressure and temperature-based control, pump staging and cascade logic, sensor placement, BMS integration, and common failure modes seen during commissioning and operation. The focus is practical: how to design, specify, troubleshoot, and optimize HVAC systems that perform as intended.
Outcome
Participants leave with a systems-level understanding of HVAC optimization, the confidence to evaluate and influence control strategies, and the ability to diagnose performance gaps and recommend corrective actions in both new and existing buildings.
Who Should Attend:
This advanced course is intended for professionals who already understand basic HVAC and hydronic concepts and want to go deeper into performance, controls, and optimization, including:
- Design engineers working on chilled water and hydronic HVAC systems
- Controls engineers and BAS specialists responsible for sequencing and integration
- Commissioning and retro-commissioning professionals
- Energy engineers and consultants focused on performance improvement
- Senior application engineers and technical specialists
- Experienced facility engineers and operators involved in troubleshooting and optimization
Prerequisite: Prior HVAC and hydronic systems knowledge is strongly recommended. Attendees should already be comfortable with HVAC system types, basic pumping concepts, and control fundamentals.
