Introduction: The System Optimization TPE3 Pump

This film will introduce you to the most important aspects and application areas of the TPE3.

The TPE3 is an in-line pump for commercial buildings, but we'd like to think of it as much more than a pump. Allow us to tell you why we think this pump is so special.
At the heart of the TPE3 are several advanced functionalities such as the new deltaT control mode, the flow limiting function, the built-in heat energy meter, integrated wireless multi pump control and almost limitless connection possibilities to external sensors.
   
It all starts with a state-of-the art Grundfos pump complete with every cutting-edge feature you could expect.

But besides that, the TPE3 contains some radically new features that enable it to optimize the system and application it is a part of.
 
Let’s start by looking at the delta T control mode. With the delta T control mode, you are able to operate your pump, based on the measured difference between flow and return temperature. This has never been easier.

Connect one or two external sensors directly to the TPE3 and let the pump take charge of the system’s need for flow, based on differential temperature. No additional equipment is needed.
 
The TPE3 also has unique wireless technology, which enables it to connect directly to other TPE3 pumps – up to four single pumps, actually.

The pumps are now operating in a joint-control mode in either cascade mode, alternating mode or back-up mode without the need for any other pump controller unit.
The TPE3 also offers a flow limiting function that eliminates the need for a pump throttling valve in your system.

Another new functionality is the TPE3’s built-in heat energy meter. That means no more excessive energy bills caused by system imbalances.

Together, the cutting edge pump and its advanced functionalities give you a highly intelligent package that allows you to optimize your system.

Now let’s look at the applications where the TPE3 can be used. The TPE3 is an all-round in-line pump that can be used in all heating systems, cooling systems and district energy systems. Allow us to give you a few examples that demonstrate how the new TPE3 functionalities improve the overall system performance in terms of increased component protection, increased system monitoring, better system control as well as lower energy consumption.

Use the TPE3 in non-condensing boiler systems and get increased boiler protection and reduced operation costs. Combine the TPE3 with an external temperature sensor that measures the return water temperature. By adapting the flow in the by-pass line the pump is in charge of the water temperature entering the boiler, which ensures that the right temperature is maintained at all times.

Use the TPE3 for one-string heating systems and increase system efficiency. In single string systems the design is typically made with constant flow. The result is increased return temperatures from the system in low load situations. A TPE3 pump solves this problem by monitoring the flow and return water temperature. This allows the pump to adapt its performance to the actual temperature difference and it is ensured that the delta T is maintained as originally intended.

Use the TPE3 in heat recovery systems to reduce water temperatures and costs.
Runaround heat recovery systems should only be active when there is a temperature difference between outdoor air and return air of more than 4-6°F.
With a TPE3 pump you can add two temperature sensors and the pump will adapt the circulating flow in the system to what is really needed, based on the temperature difference.

Use the TPE3 in Domestic hot water circulation to gain control of hot water temperatures and save money. In domestic hot water applications, you need instant hot water when the tap is opened.

Traditionally, a throttled constant speed pump runs around the clock, every day to ensure this – but this is a waste of energy.

Apply a TPE3 and put it in constant temperature control mode.
Based on the signal from the pump’s internal temperature sensor, the pump continuously adapts its performance to the actual need and in that way the desired constant water temperature is maintained.
