When VAK Pardubice, a waterworks in Czechia, were looking to upgrade their treatment of water intake, they drew on their previous positive experience of working with Grundfos through the solution provider Envi-Pur and Grundfos Digital Dosing™ solutions.

The situation

For an earlier project, Envi-Pur, a solution provider in Czechia specialising in the supply of technologies and equipment for municipal and industrial water treatment plants, supplied their ceramic mem- brane filtration solution (AMAYA) together with Grundfos dosing skids to VAK Pardubice.

This project was started in 2018, and the installation has now been working trouble-free since the start of operations in 2020.

The reason for this new project was that Envi-Pur’s customer VAK Pardubice needed to separate two water sources, groundwater and surface water, due to regulatory requirements. Previously, they had used the two sources as one common source. Because of the previous good collaboration, it was an easy decision for the customer to work with Grundfos and Envi-Pur for the current project.

The collaboration between Evi-Pur and Grundfos was key to success.

The solution

The solution proposed by Grundfos and selected by Envi-Pur for their customer combined complete Dosing Skid Systems from Grundfos with ceramic membrane filtration from Envi-Pur. With a capacity of 200 liters per second, it is their largest plant, providing drinking water for approximately 150,000 people. This combination offered technology superior to the competitor system that was also in the running.

Close cooperation was key for success; the waterworks company and designers were also involved. Close cooperation with Envi-Pur and good stakeholder management created a solid base to negotiate with all parties. Joint consultation identified the best and most suitable solution for the dosing skid that met their needs perfectly.

“Partnering with Grundfos was entirely natural for us, as we have been using their products and dosing pumps for a long time and are very satisfied with them,” says Kryštof Hnojna, Senior Technologist, Envi-Pur s.r.o.

At all treatment plants where we supplied dosing skids, it has proven to be a high-quality, reliable solution with which we are very satisfied.

Adam Fendrych is the Deputy Director of Operations at Waterworks VAK Pardubice a.s and sums up the reliability of the installation:

Since 2020, we have not encountered any significant issues, and choosing this technical solution has proven to be the right decision.

The outcome

Grundfos ended up supplying nine dosing skids, each of which is customised based on pump size or material specifications. With these new dosing skids, Grundfos and Envi-Pur solved the disinfection needs for ensuring safe water. Envi-Pur could deliver the solution as required by the end-user:

  • Reliable state-of-the-art dosing solution to disinfect water
  • Fast order delivery time, all from one solution provider
  • Safe setup of entire dosing station for operators
  • Safe chemicals due to accurate dosing pumps saves money
  • Ability to customise and adjust to customer needs
  • Ability to advise on installation, commissioning, etc.

About Dosing Skid Systems (DSS)

A dosing skid is an engineered system designed to accurately meter and inject chemicals into a process stream. It’s a compact, self-contained unit that includes pumps, control systems, piping and valves. These systems are crucial in various applications, from water supply and treatment to industrial processes, ensuring precise chemical dosing which is essential for maintaining safety, efficiency and product quality.

Dosing Skid Systems range from pre-engineered to custom systems that offer integrated controls and multiple configurations to accurately meter liquid chemicals for water supply, treatment, industrial and manufacturing applications. They incorporate hydraulically and mechanically actuated pumps including SMART Digital Dosing™ pumps with stepper motor technology offering up to 1:3000 flow turndown.
