Grant to improve water and sanitation in orphanage and community school

Specific activities to be undertaken with the funds provided include;

  • (a) Completion of the girl’s ablution block and construction of a new ablution block for boys.
  • (b) Completion of the water system to the kitchen, clinic, ablution block and garden. The outcome of this support shall include adequate water supply for both domestic and productive use. Readily available water shall assist in reducing incidences of water borne diseases among the school children and reduce the time spent on drawing water thereby awarding the pupils more time to study.

The project as a whole shall provide valuable lessons on the potential and viability of small community solar water pumping system that can be replicated to similar centres located in the periphery parts of the country. This undertaking is in harmony with the general objective of Danish International Development Assistance of reducing poverty through pro-poor economic growth.

The Initial Danish support to the Centre started with a donation of a Grundfos solar pumping system from GRUNDFOS-Denmark presented to the Centre by the Danish Embassy to Zambia. The Embassy has agreed to provide further support to the project as it is assisting in mitigating the effects of HIV/AIDS on orphans and other vulnerable children.

Nyampande Orphanage and Community School located at a distance of 150kms from Lusaka along the Great East Road is a faith-based centre belonging to the local Zambian Church of God congregation.
