From our production facility in Stilling, 11 custom-designed water treatment units have been dispatched to Ukraine. The units will be a central part of so-called Sun Wagons, which aim to provide access to clean drinking water and energy for Ukrainians in war-affected areas.
The Sun Wagons are solar-powered, mobile trailers holding a range of capabilities to supply water and energy. The concept has been developed in collaboration with several Danish companies – including Grundfos for the water treatment component.
The project is managed by DanChurchAid with financial support from the A.P. Møller Relief Foundation.

Flexible water treatment – Adapted to unknown conditions
The water treatment solution has been specially developed to ensure it runs effectively regardless of where and under what conditions it is deployed.
“In war-affected areas, the composition of untreated water is unknown. That’s why we have designed and built a solution that can deliver drinking water quality no matter which water source is available,” explains Oleksandr Sadchykov, responsible for sales and service in Northern and Central Europe at Water Treatment Europe.
Mobility in the field
The units are mounted on a frame that makes them easy to install in the trailers that form the Sun Wagons. The trailers have foldable solar panels for easy transport and setup. This makes the solution both easy to transport and quick to deploy – anywhere in the field.
Each Sun Wagon produces up to 20,000 kWh of sustainable energy and treats 33,600 litres of water per day.
“This project is very special for us – and especially for me – because I am from Ukraine. It makes me proud and happy that we at Grundfos can support my fellow Ukrainians in the challenges they are facing right now,” says Oleksandr Sadchykov.
The Sun Wagons are now being tested in Mykolaiv, Ukraine by DanChurchAid.
