How to select the right SB or SBA pumps

Explore the three key factors to consider when selecting the right Grundfos SB or SBA submersible pressure booster pump for your installation.

In this module, we’ll explore the three key factors to consider when selecting the right SB or SBA submersible pressure booster pump for your needs. Let’s get started.

There are eight variants in the SB and SBA pump range, each customisable to meet different requirements. To decide which one is right for you, there are three main choices to consider.

The first is which model you need, the SB or the SBA. This depends on how you want the pump to be controlled. The SB pump is operated by an external control unit, such as the Grundfos Pressure Manager. This intelligent controller ensures optimal water pressure by starting the pump at a preset cut-in pressure point, which continues for as long as there is flow. It can also detect when the pump is operational and alert you to any issues that may occur. With this option, you can easily monitor and maintain full control of the pump.

The SBA model offers all-in-one simplicity. It’s designed with an integrated automatic controller for both pressure and flow control, meaning no additional space is needed for external units.

The second choice is whether a float switch is required. A float switch provides added protection by stopping the motor whenever the water level becomes too low. This stops fragments or debris from clogging the inlet strainer, preventing dry running and potential damage to the pump.

The third choice is which type of strainer you prefer. There are two options to choose from. The first is a fixed strainer positioned at the base of the pump, which filters water through a one-millimetre mesh. The second is a floating suction inlet strainer, which draws water from just below the surface.

This is where the water is typically at its cleanest and less likely to contain surface impurities or debris from the bottom. With these three decisions, you can ensure the SB or SBA pump you choose is the best fit for your installation.

In the next module, we’ll take a closer look at the different external control unit options available for the SB pump.
