Are heat pumps ready to meet the EU climate goals?

Changing requirements demand for new, innovative heating solutions. Here’s how the choice of the right heat pump components can help stay ahead of the curve.

With the EU committed to reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, the demand among political decision-makers for fossil-fuel-free products for heating, cooling and hot water generation is on the rise.

In fact, heating and cooling make up 50% of Europe's energy use. That’s why heat pumps are in high demand with the potential to save 16.1% of total EU energy use. With a full-scale heat pump deployment, the electricity mix has the potential to fulfil half of the EU's CO2 reduction target for 2030.

In future, the demand for heat pumps will grow

More and more installers are asking for electric-based heat pumps. Over the next 3 years, the sale of heat pumps is expected to double.

At the same time, for heat pumps to function correctly and efficiently, high flow must be guaranteed.  boiler and heat pump manufactures are pressured to develop heating solutions that rely on a high-enough flow while simultaneously guaranteeing stable and energy-efficient integrations in both heat pumps and boiler.

Heat pump units must be flexible and adaptable

In short, the heat pump of tomorrow must be flexible and efficient. Yet, boiler and heat pump manufactures often struggle with multiple-component heat pump units and their limited flexibility. A component for one heating solution might not be equally easy to install in another heat pump model.

The CHBL (Compact HydroBlock Large) heat pump unit saves valuable time for HVACs at the production and assembly line, by reducing the number of components needed and ensuring full integration with all heat pumps. As it fits all small and medium circulators, it enables high flow and allows to add the full pump head range with different pump types.

The integrated connection for the expansion vessel removes the need for more connections in the rest of the system, simplifying design and compactness.

Boiler and heat pump manufactures can save costs in the long run

Since 80% of the heat pump solution is produced in one place, various components, such as the air vent, PRV, sensor or drain, are integrated into the CHBL already, significantly reducing supply chain risk and installation time on site.

The CHBL has undergone extensive testing to provide a high-quality product today and reduce costs that may occur tomorrow. With this approach, boiler and heat pump manufactures can benefit from the following advantages:

  • A predesigned functionality that is built into the unit
  • Less required space in the complete heating system
  • Significant cost reductions (such as in the assembly line and maintenance)
  • Reoccurring quality tests to perfection
  • High energy efficiency
  • A simplified supply chain (one supplier)
