Grundfos is committed to increasing transparency around the environmental impact of its products. Today, a variety of Grundfos product ranges are covered by Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), providing customers and stakeholders with verified, objective data on their environmental performance across the full product life cycle.
The EPD is an internationally recognised document that communicates the environmental impact of a product in a standardised and comparable way, in accordance with EN15804 and ISO 14025 standards. The EPDs offer quantitative, third-party verified information covering every stage of a product’s life cycle, from raw material extraction and manufacturing to distribution, operation, and end-of-life handling. Grundfos corporates with the EPD Programme Operator Institut Bauen und Umwelt e. V. (IBU). The Grundfos EPDs can be found and downloaded from IBU.
Make informed decisions on environmental impact
By offering EPDs across its product portfolio, Grundfos enables customers to make more informed and data-driven decisions. Environmental performance is increasingly evaluated alongside traditional criteria such as functionality, reliability, and total cost of ownership. With access to transparent documentation, consultants, engineers, contractors, and building owners can confidently assess the sustainability impact of pump solutions within their projects.
EPDs are particularly valuable in the context of green building certification schemes such as DGNB, BNB, BREEAM, and LEED. These frameworks require credible and standardised environmental data to evaluate the sustainability performance of buildings. By providing verified lifecycle information, Grundfos products with EPDs help support compliance with these certification systems and contribute to more sustainable construction practices.
In addition to supporting building certifications, EPDs also play an important role in enabling lifecycle-based thinking. They highlight the environmental impact not only of production but also of use-phase energy consumption and end-of-life considerations. This is particularly relevant for pumps, where operational efficiency can significantly influence the overall environmental footprint. Energy-efficient pump solutions can contribute to reducing both operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions over time.
Sustainability at Grundfos
Sustainability and a deep-rooted respect for people and planet have always been at the core of our business. It is an integral part of our current business strategy, which is accelerating our energy-efficient water and digital solutions so we can make the most impact on some of the world’s most critical challenges.
These are the areas where we want to lead and where we can have the greatest impact. They directly connect with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and Goal 13 (Climate Action) are where we can contribute the most, by protecting the world’s water, alleviating climate challenges, protecting precious resources, and improving people’s quality of life.
