Electronics industry

A manufacturer of high-end audio products increased the production which required a new water treatment solution for the rinse zones. Due to a lack of space, a compact reverse osmosis unit with a small footprint was selected. To attain water of high quality the demineralized water is further treated in a mix-bed unit. 

DI rinse water for production of high-end audio products

The customer is developing and manufacturing high-end audio products. To support a growing demand of modern aluminum cabinets, the customer has implemented a new anodizing surface treatment line. For this purpose, demineralised rinse water of high purity is needed. The result is an exclusive surface look and top product quality.

Grundfos has supplied and installed a new water treatment solution for the production of demineralised water. Due to lack of space, a compact RO unit with a small footprint was selected. After the RO unit the water is further polished in a mixed-bed unit in order to reach the high water quality. The mixed-bed unit is for off-site regeneration, supporting the space issue as well as a concern for a complete chemical free solution.

Glass industry

A large international manufacturer of flat glass uses a fully automated, plug-and-play compact water treatment unit for the rinse zones. The rinse water is reused/recirculated through a special dual filter that is a combined gravel and activated carbon filter. 

Water treatment for glass washing machines

A large international flat glass manufacturer has installed an all-in-one, fully automated plug-and-play water treatment unit for different rinsing zones. In total the customer has 14 all-in-one units operating at different locations. With years of experience in water treatment for the glass industry, Grundfos have designed a comprehensive standard solution consisting of:

  • Demineralised rinse water: Water is pre-treated in an ion exchange softening unit and then demineralised using chemical-free reverse osmosis. This process ensures no spots, dirt, or residue, greatly enhancing the adhesion of PVB film.
  • Water saving: An efficient recycling process reduces freshwater demand. Rinse water is reused/recirculated through a dual filter combining gravel and activated carbon, removing cutting fluid, residue, and particles like glass chips and contaminants.
  • Storage tank and booster pump: Make-up water and recycled water are collected in a storage tank. The treated water is then pumped to the rinsing zones by an integrated pump.
  • Automation: The process is fully automated with sensors and triggers ensuring smooth operation. The unit is prepared for integration with other control systems.

Automotive industry

A leading supplier of sophisticated forming technology for premium cars use demineralizers with UPCORE™ technology for producing high quality rinse water. This system is self-cleaning and has a very low chemical consumption which results in lower operating costs. 

Rinse water for surface treatment in the automotive industry

The customer is a leading supplier of sophisticated forming technology in body construction for premium cars. In their paint shop they use cathodic electrodeposition, also known as cathodic dip coating or cataphoretic painting, which is a high-quality, economical coating process for all submersible metal parts. For this process they require a large volume of rinse water of high quality.

After more than 20 years of operation it was necessary to repair some broken parts and exchange the control of the existing demineralisers, but based on a profitability analysis, the customer decided to replace the complete plant with new and modern technology offering many valuable benefits to the operation.

Technically speaking, the old demineralizers with co-current regeneration was replaced with UPCORE technology (UPflow COuntercurrent REgeration) because of the following features:

The system is self-cleaning, thus ensuring a constant, low pressure loss and trouble-free operation

The optimised utilisation of the regeneration chemicals leads to reduced operating costs.

Reduce and reuse the rinse water with water treatment technologies
