FAQ

Question: What are the primary differences between SCALA1 and SCALA2 pumps?

Answer:

SCALA2 features intelligent pump control that adjusts performance according to water demand, ensuring constant pressure regardless of variations in demand or inlet pressure. This feature is not available in SCALA1. This means SCALA2 may provide higher performance in larger homes with more varied or substantial water usage. On top of that, there are some other technical differences between the two models:

Number of impellers: SCALA2 is a multistage pump with 3-4 impellers while SCALA 1 has different number of impellers designed to give the different flow and head (SCALA1 3-25 or 3-45 or 5-55) so depending on the performance you will get a different amount of impellers.

Pump head: SCALA2 can provide a head up to 45 meters, while SCALA1 has different models, that can provide a pump head to 25, 35, 45 and 55 meters.

The key differential in the design and operational features of the SCALA2 and SCALA1 pumps lies in the incorporation of a frequency converter in SCALA2. The SCALA2 pump utilizes this inverter to maintain consistent pressure on the discharge side, irrespective of variations in inlet pressure. It offers an adjustable pressure range on the control panel, ranging from 1.5 to 5.5 bar. While SCALA1 is a fixed-speed pump, as it does not have a frequency converter.

The SCALA2 pump's advanced intelligence controls enhance its energy efficiency, distinguishing it from the SCALA1 pump.

Another prominent differentiation between the two pumps lies in their Bluetooth connectivity capabilities. In this regard, SCALA1 holds a significant edge. Users can connect with the SCALA1 pump remotely through the Grundfos Go app, which proves to be exceptionally advantageous for scenarios with restricted access to the pump control panel. Via the Grundfos Go users are enabled to:

  • Toggle the pump's power status (OFF/ON)
  • Utilize a calendar function to schedule pump operation periods, particularly useful for applications such as garden irrigation
  • Set up a Twin pump configuration
  • Enable and select control options for external input signal
  • Generate service reports

SCALA1 can run in a multi-pump configuration as a twin-booster when there is a higher flow demand or a need for a stand-by pump.

Both SCALA pumps are IP X4D rated, meaning the products can be installed outdoors. However, only the SCALA2 pump features freeze protection for water.

Choosing between the Grundfos SCALA1 and SCALA2 depends on your specific needs, your system and your application requirements.
