- Product sustainability
We focus on developing products and solutions that enable energy and water efficiency, as well as circularity and reduced material use.
Working with product sustainability
At Grundfos, we work to improve sustainability at all levels by designing products that minimize their environmental impacts. Our design choices are firmly embedded in our product development process, focusing on energy and resource efficiency as well as material health by reducing dependence on harmful substances where possible.
We aim to minimize material use while incorporating circularity principles. This approach ensures our products meet the highest standards of performance and are produced with responsible resource use.
Our product sustainability focus
Climate
We focus on reducing the climate impact of our products across their lifecycle by improving energy efficiency, lowering embedded emissions from materials and manufacturing, and preparing for future climate requirements.
Circularity
We design products to stay in use longer through durability, repairability, upgradeability, and recyclability. We enable circularity via designing for disassembly with tradeoffs regarding durability.
Pollution
We focus on minimizing impacts on human health and the environment by supporting drinking water safety and complying with chemical regulations.
Life Cycle Assessments and Environmental Product Declarations
What are LCAs and EPDs?
A Life Cycle Assessment, or LCA, evaluates a product’s environmental impact across its lifecycle. An Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, communicates verified environmental data about a product and is based on an LCA.
A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) evaluates the environmental impact associated with all stages of a pump or product life. Early LCAs performed on Grundfos pumps since the 1990s found that the pump use-phase accounts for a large proportion of its total environmental impact. This realisation, along with former CEO Niels Due Jensen’s dedication to sustainability, led to the strong focus on energy efficiency we continue to this day.
An LCA is a prerequisite for issuing an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), an objective, verifiable document of a product’s environmental data. EPDs support green building schemes that focus on sustainable building components.
Transparency and accountability are cornerstones of our approach to product declarations. We are actively engaged in developing third-party verified EPDs for our product portfolio, and currently have verified EPDs for selected products.
Find third-party verified EPDs for selected Grundfos products in the external EPD database (search for “Grundfos” in the Manufacturer column).
Extending product life and supporting end-of-life management
Grundfos designs products with the objective of supporting long service life through durability, reliability, and maintenance. Repair, servicing, and replacement of components, where feasible, can help extend product use and maintain performance over time.
Grundfos is also piloting a take-back programme for selected end-of-life pumps to evaluate approaches for the collection and management of products that are no longer in use.
Information is provided to support product disassembly, handling, treatment, and recycling at end-of-life, as well as the correct disposal of packaging materials.
Packaging disposal
Packaging materials should be separated by material type and disposed of through appropriate collection systems. Disposal requirements may vary by location and should be followed in accordance with local regulations and recycling schemes.
The disposal symbols displayed on packaging identify material types and support correct sorting and recycling.

Product end-of-life information
Grundfos provides end-of-life information for our products, to have a uniform information system on how they can be handled once they have reached the end of their usability.
The disassembly of Grundfos products can generally be carried out using commonly available tools.
Chemical compliance
As part of our commitment to product compliance we have devised the Grundfos Focus List, which bans or restricts the use of certain chemical substances in Grundfos products, production processes and at Grundfos facilities.
End-of-Life information for our products can be accessed via the below links.

Product chemical compliance
As part of a high focus on product compliance we have devised the Grundfos Focus List, which bans or restricts the use of certain chemical substances in Grundfos products, production processes and at Grundfos facilities. The list has been developed with regard to European legislation such as REACH regulation, RoHS, Battery, Packaging, ODS and POPs directives.
Product Chemical Compliance Declaration
In regard to REACH Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, article 33
At Grundfos, we are committed to creating products and solutions that help our customers and the surrounding world conserve natural resources and reduce climate impact. This is a fundamental part of our values, as well as in accordance with Grundfos’ business strategy which sets sustainability as a continued business driver.
Grundfos products manufactured and placed on the market within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) comply with the REACH Regulation as regards:
REACH Regulation, (EC) 1907/2006
- Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC)
- Restriction List, Annex 17
- Authorisation List, Annex 14
Grundfos strives to substitute all Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) that are found in our raw materials, components and products in a concentration above 0.1% (w/w).
Identification of REACH SVHCs
Based on our investigations and information from our suppliers regarding REACH article 33, we have identified the below listed SVHCs in concentrations above 0.1% in the following Grundfos products/articles.
Endocrine disruptors
Endocrine disruptors in a product according to Decree no. 2022-748 of 29 April 2022 on consumer information about the environmental qualities and characteristics of products that generate waste:
Endocrine disruptors identified in Grundfos’ products are Bisphenol A (CAS 80-05-7) and Tris (nonylphenyl) phosphite (CAS 26523-78-4). These are included in the REACH SVHC list and can be found in the REACH SVHC Content lookup tool searching by product number.
Supplier obligations
To ensure that Grundfos is compliant we have taken the following initiatives:
- Grundfos has launched the Grundfos Focus List in order to give our suppliers, contractors and other relevant stakeholders worldwide a tool to help comply with chemical legislation. The Grundfos Focus List bans or restricts the use of certain chemical substances in Grundfos products, Grundfos production processes and at Grundfos facilities.
- Grundfos continuously performs audits of their suppliers to ensure compliance with their contractual obligation to comply with the chemical legislation.
